This recipe came from my Grandma, and whenever we had steak growing up, it was always with this marinade. The smell of it reminds me of special family dinners together.
You can certainly use whatever cut of steak you prefer. The original recipe from my Grandma calls for two medium flank steaks, but I choose a leaner and cheaper cut, like sirloin steaks. Be sure to cook more than you'll eat so that you have leftovers to put on salads for lunch. Serve with a mixed green salad or roasted veggies.
2 pounds of steak, like sirloin, tri-tip or flank
1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
3 Tbsp honey
2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
3/4 cup olive oil
1 diced green onion
Stir together all the ingredients for the marinade then pour over the steak in a resealable bag or container. Let marinate for at least two hour, but preferably overnight. Then grill the steak to your preferred doneness.
